Along the northern circuit of Villa Clara, Cuba—just 4 km from Quemado de Güines—lies Sevilla, a small village of about 300 inhabitants. There, a group of some 20 believers and several children used to hold their worship services under precarious conditions.
However, since September of last year, the reality has changed: thanks to the assistance of “Antorcha Salvación” (Torch of Salvation), the church now possesses its own premises—a property that was acquired and officially established as a church.
This ministry is led by missionaries Daniel Alfonso and Sonia Pérez, who shepherd this congregation with wholehearted devotion. The photos accompanying this post capture the worship services for both adults and children, clearly demonstrating the joy of God’s people in their new space.
The purchase of the building is not merely a human achievement; it is a response to the faith of a community that cried out for the opportunity to worship God. As Psalm 127:1 states: “Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain.” In this instance, the Lord has worked through the support of “Antorcha” and the consecration of His servants.
Despite being a small group, the church in Sevilla is experiencing a special spiritual movement. The children’s services serve as a nursery of hope, bringing Proverbs 22:6 to life: “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.”
Meanwhile, the adults are being strengthened in the Word, remaining faithful to Hebrews 10:25: “Not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some.”
The Lord has placed a jewel in that small village. What began as a deep longing has today become a reality: four walls that house praise, prayer, and teaching. The work in Sevilla stands as a reminder that God does not look at the size of a town, but rather at the faith of His people.
Thanks to the efforts of “Antorcha”, missionaries Alfonso and Sonia, and the faithfulness of those 20 believers, the light of the Gospel shines even more brightly today in this corner of Cuba. To Him be the glory.
With gratitude, TOSI International / “Antorcha de Salvación” Baptist Church.
