The Emanuel Baptist Bible Church (IBBE) in the town of Tuinucú, Sancti Spíritus, Cuba, presents its “Light a Candle” project.
For over three years, this church has been evangelizing in the community using an outreach strategy: they help people with their needs and share the message of the Gospel that brings light. During this time, Missionary Yosmany Morales, along with the church and several members, have witnessed the many needs of children and the elderly in their community. Therefore, they decided to also help with material things: food, clothing, shoes, toys, medicine, personal hygiene items, and more. Thanks be to God, some non-Christian brothers and friends with a desire to serve have helped them financially and with essential items.
Currently, the project works with 10 children with debilitating chronic illnesses and their families, including those who are permanently hospitalized at the pediatric hospital and those who live at home. Another important area is the implementation of Bible Schools for children in their own church and in other churches that lack resources.
The project seeks to continue working on its mission: “the proclamation of the Gospel and service to those in need.” For those who wish to be part of this para-church project, there are three ways to collaborate: working directly with people, praying for this project, or giving to make it a reality. Prayer is requested, and if God moves you to help in these three ways, that’s fine; but if you cannot do all three, you can at least pray and share the idea of the project, because perhaps God is moving the heart of a brother or friend to help.
As James 2:15-17 says: “If a brother or sister is poorly clothed and lacking daily food, and one of you says to them, ‘Go in peace, be warmed and filled,’ without giving them the things needed for the body, what good is it? So also faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.”
